Desarrollar un diccionario Kichwa-Amazónico online.

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to develop a bilingual Kichwa–Spanish web-based dictionary system, designed as an interactive, accessible, and educational digital tool to support the learning of the Kichwa language. The research followed a qualitative and applied approach, supported by data collected through surveys given to adults from the Tena canton, with a representative sample of 194 participants. The system was implemented using Python 3.13.3, the Django 4.2.23 framework, and the MariaDB 12.10.0 database. Its main features include: searching for terms in both Kichwa and Spanish, displaying illustrated word cards, a registration system with strict authentication and validations, and a user profile to track individual progress. The content includes a total of 4,509 words with their respective translations, organized in a structured way to make consultation easier. In addition, four educational mini-games were included as a playful reinforcement strategy. The development results showed that the project’s objectives were successfully met, offering a user-friendly experience adapted to the local educational context. This project stands as a valuable contribution to strengthening the learning of Kichwa in both school and community environments.
